BURNABY, Canada (Nov. 13, 2016) - In its latest outreach initiative, the WTF spoke to representatives of the Member National Associations, or MNAs, at an all-day seminar held at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel in Burnaby, Canada, today.

“This is the first time to hold the WTF MNA Workshop- but it will not be the last! We have a lot of information to deliver to you, but we also look forward to your feedback. We want this event to be a mutually beneficial meeting of minds,” said WTF President Chungwon Choue. The event will henceforth be held every two years on the sidelines of the World Taekwondo Junior Championships.

The all-day “2016 Member National Association Leadership Workshop” covered a gamut of subjects.

The morning program covered general administrative matters between the WTF and the MNAs; an introduction to WTF events and the bidding and selection processes for host venues; membership applications; and the procedures for accessing WTF development funds.

After lunch, attendees were briefed on anti-doping, the WTF’s new, online global management system; the creation of national-level para-taekwondo programs; the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, or THF; and the WTF Taekwondo Partnership Program.

The day wrapped up with a group discussion.

“It was a very useful workshop for us. I am happy to know about the new scholarship program for athletes, new bid and selection process, and the supporting for refugees through the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation as well,” said Ms. Shima Babapour, Director of the International Affairs of the Iran Taekwondo Federation.

With the WTF committed to upgrading its transparency and communications, the initiative follows on the heels of a week-long coach seminar and forum, organized by the WTF, during which 30 of the world’s top taekwondo coaches were invited to Seoul to discuss the future of the sport.

And the leadership workshop is not the only taekwondo-related business being transacted in the Canadian city; Burnaby will be the center of the taekwondo world over the week to come.

A WTF Council meeting will be held on Nov. 14, the WTF General Assembly will convene on Nov. 15 and the 2016 World Taekwondo Junior Championships kick off for a five-day run on Nov. 16.
