2nd THF Hope and Dreams Sports Festival to Empower Refugees Through Sport

AMMAN, Jordan (Apr. 25, 2024) -The second edition of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) Hope and Dreams Sports Festival is set to take place in Jordan on May 1-3 and refugees will be offered another opportunity to experience sports.

Building on last year’s success as a multi-sport festival, participants will once again be able to experience Taekwondo, Baseball, and Badminton, which reflect THF’s mission to empower refugees through sport.

The Hope and Dreams Sports Festival includes exercises and demonstrations of each sport at the Azraq and Za’atari Refugee Camps, followed by competitions across two fields of play in Amman. THF will also be hosting a Board meeting and a joint session with the International Federations in attendance.

THF Chairman and World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue said:

“We are delighted to be returning to Jordan for the second edition of the Hope and Dreams Sports Festival, which demonstrates our commitment to empowering refugees and inspiring hopes and dreams, and our belief that sport can play an important role in promoting peace.

“We have invited more International Federations this year, as we believe that working together can strengthen our support for refugees and displaced people.

We are very grateful to the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and Badminton World Federation (BWF) for their support, and I believe that together we can make this year’s Hope and Dreams Sports Festival a huge success.”

The WBSC is joining the Hope and Dreams Sports Festival once again, as Baseball5 was popular among last year’s participants.

HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, International Olympic Committee Executive Board member and President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, is among the VIP guests at this year’s edition.

The Hope and Dreams Sports Festival is in line with the World Taekwondo Sustainability Strategy and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 by strengthening the support for refugees and displaced people.
