SOFIA, Bulgaria (Mar 10, 2024) – The European Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games took place at the Sport Hall “Eng. Yanko Yankov” in Sofia, Bulgaria, between March 9-10, with 16 qualification spots up for grabs.
The competition witnessed athletes from the following ten European National Olympic Committees (NOCs) win berths for Paris 2024: Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary (two places), Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Slovenia and Spain. In addition, four Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) secured places, while Kimia Alizadeh Zenozi qualified as a refugee athlete in the women’s -57kg category. This tournament also marked a historic moment for the Czech Republic , as it achieved its first Olympic qualification in Taekwondo.

The European Qualification Tournament featured intense competition across four men’s and four women’s Olympic weight categories. With the top two ranked athletes in each category clinching Olympic tickets for their NOCs, a total of 16 spots were contested.
Taekwondo’s Continental Qualification Tournaments offer athletes who have not qualified via Olympic ranking points a final chance to qualify for the Games.
Attention now turns to Asia, where the next Continental Qualification Tournament is scheduled to take place from March 15 to 16 at the Taishan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Tai’an city, China.
