You can’t keep a good Olympian down.

 

Many Taekwondo fighters would be more than satisfied to win two Olympic golds and then hang up their black belts, but China’s Jingyu “Superkicker” Wu continues to forge ahead, contributing to the sport both on and off the field of play.

 

She recently medaled in the Virtual Taekwondo during the Olympic Esport Series in Singapore. Prior to Singapore, Wu and her husband Justin Hou made a generous donation of USD 10,000 to the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation on March 21.

 

“This investment will help support Taekwondo programs for refugees, to promote their wellbeing and give them the skills to become great citizens of the world,” the pair said.

 

Subsequently, on the sidelines of the Baku 2023 World Taekwondo Championships, Hou who is a member of the IOC Culture and Heritage Commission - was appointed a Taekwondo Humanitarian Ambassador, in recognition of his contribution to the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, and dedication to engaging with refugees and displaced persons.

 

Also in Baku, Wu was elected to the World Taekwondo Athletes Committee for the 2023-2026 term. The latter development should please all players, as, off the mats, Wu is one of the nicest, most approachable stars in the game.

 

On the mats, her competitive achievements are stellar. She won golds at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and the London 2012 Olympics, and competed in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. In addition, she is a three-time world champion and a five-time Grand Prix gold medalist.

 

And yet another honor came Wu’s way during the WT Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner in Baku, where she was named Best Female Athlete of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
