SEOUL, Korea (November 2, 2020) - World Taekwondo today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Goyang at the Goyang City Hall to formalize the relocation of the federation’s headquarters to Goyang City, Korea.
Through the agreement, Goyang City will provide World Taekwondo with a new state-of-the-art building to house the federation. The building is expected to be completed by 2025 and will have office space as well as a taekwondo museum, a training ground and amenities split across 10 floors.
Located just 40 minutes away from Incheon International Airport, the new headquarters will be easily accessible for World Taekwondo’s international visitors.
World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue said:
“We are delighted to sign this MoU with the city of Goyang. We are grateful to Goyang Mayor Lee Jae-joon whose affection for taekwondo played a big role in this move. Our new headquarters will significantly increase our operational capacity and allow us to better serve our global taekwondo family. Moreover, it will provide an accessible and convenient location for us to host guests, training camps and more.”
Goyang Mayor Lee Jae-joon said "We thank President Choue and the World Taekwondo for choosing Goyang City as the city for the relocation of the federation's headquarters."
In May, the World Taekwondo Council decided to host the 2022 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Goyang City and the competition will be held for one week in mid-April 2022.
