Iran Holds Poomsae Competition Online
Proceeds donated to family members who have suffered from Covid-19

(June 8, 2020) - Iranian taekwondo leveraged the sport’s solo format and deployed social media to hold the 1st Online Poomsae Competition for athletes across the nation.

With social distancing still in effect due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, the competition, branded “Great Cup of Kindness,” did not take place in a stadium, but was held via online video at the end of May.

Some 800 athletes in male and female categories, in two belt divisions - yellow to blue, and red and above - took part. The youngest competitors were under 10 years of age; the oldest was over 65.

The event offered 12 award categories, with 36 medals (gold, silver, bronze) up for grabs.

And in a “Faithful Aid” ceremony, the proceeds generated from the event were dedicated to 300 Iranian taekwondo family members impacted by Covid-19.
