Wuxi, China (Apr 10, 2025) — In anticipation of the upcoming World Taekwondo Championships scheduled for October, leadership and staff from World Taekwondo (WT) visited Wuxi, China, from April 8 to 10 to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the host city’s readiness and to engage in high-level meetings with local organizers and stakeholders.
During the 3-day visit, WT officials received detailed briefings from the Wuxi Organizing Committee on logistical and operational preparations. The WT delegation assessed the competition venues, conference halls, accommodation arrangements, transportation plans, and other key infrastructure. The meetings also covered planning for the WT Council Meeting and General Assembly, both of which will be held immediately prior to the Championships in October.
A key highlight of the upcoming General Assembly, slated for October 23, will be the election of the WT President, Vice Presidents, and Council Members. This election is particularly significant, as the World Taekwondo Council will be reduced in size from 37 to 25 members, marking a major milestone in the organization’s ongoing governance reform efforts.
A meeting was also organized with the design agency in charge of the branding of the Championships.
Over two days of intensive discussions, WT staff held working-level sessions with their Chinese counterparts, focusing on refining coordination between departments and ensuring alignment on critical areas such as competition management, athlete services, protocol, marketing, media operations, and international broadcasting. The visit underscores WT’s commitment to delivering a world-class championship that upholds the values of excellence, fairness, and global unity.
Wuxi has previously hosted prestigious Taekwondo events, including the Grand Slam and the World Cup Team Championships. These experiences have strengthened the city’s capacity and infrastructure to stage major international competitions, positioning it as a strong partner for WT’s flagship event.
WT President Dr. Chungwon Choue and Secretary General Mr. Jeongkang Seo also met with Mr. Zhang Zhi, the new President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association (CTA), during the visit, as well as the sports bureau leaders of the Jiangsu Province and the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government.
The Chinese leaders expressed their full commitment to supporting the Organizing Committee and pledged to make every effort to ensure the successful delivery of the Championships.
